LAFAYETTECA: On January 211992 an Immigration Court heard Daljit Singh a native of Hissar (Haryana) who came to United States of America on November 8192 with invalid documents. He was placed in exclusion proceedings and sent to Santa Rita jail where he remained in custody for 74 days.
He claimed he was associated with the All India Sikh Student Federations struggle for creation of independent statehood called Khalistan. He said he worked towards the objectives of the AISSF and spoke against the atrocities committed by the Hindu government and the torture he experienced along with other Sikh youths
He gave a detailed narrative account of his five time exposures and torture by the Punjab police. He showed cigarette burn marks on his arms and scars on his right ankle which he got from pounding of his ankles by the police. The Court specifically asked him if those scars may be from some agricultural accident Daljit Singh categorically denied that and explained how in fact these scars came about. He was hanged upside down dragged kept in solitary confinement and threatened to be killed if he does not urn to be an informer for the government.
The Court in its decision found Daljit Singh to be responsive straight forward and truthful as to the explanation of his bad treatment at the hands of the government.
