ISLAMABAD,(PTI):An Indian diplomat in the Karachi consulate D.P. Shrivastava was attacked by an unidentified person while he was returning home for lunch, a spokesman of the Indian high commission said here, The spokesman said Shrivastava’s car was blocked by another car near his residence and an armed man tried to open the car door. However, he did not succeed as it had a central locking system.

He said Shrivastava drove past and entered a nearby lane but was chased. The diplomat, soon after the incident, went to a police station and lodged a first information report.

A similar incident involving Shrivastava had taken place in Karachi on June 7.

Indian high commissioner S .K. Lambah has lodged  protest with the acting foreign secretary of Pakistan, Khalid Salem, Foreign secretary Shahrayar Khan is away with prime minister Nawas Sharif in London.

On May 24, Indian Diplomat Rajesh Mittal was abducted, and tortured by Pak Intelligence persons in Islamabad.  

Meanwhile, several political and social organizations demanded that India should sever its diplomatic relations with Pakistan in the wake of attack or another Indian diplomat in that India should severe its diplomatic relations with Pakistan in the wake of attack on another Indian Diplomat in that country.

Protest notes to Pakistan will not serve any purpose. Only   a strong  prompt action is needed to pressurize Pakistan to mend its ways,” Jagdev Singh Bakshi, spokesman of Akali Dal (L) said here.

Rachhpal Singh, president, Akali Dal (Master Tara Singh) said India should not hold secretary-level talks as it would be against the dignity of Indian in view of the attack on D.P. Shrivastava, an India Diplomat in Karachi on June 7.

Last month, senior Indian Diplomat in Islamabad, Rajesh Mittal, was abducted and tortured by Pakistani Intelligence agencies, prompting protests from hosts of countries and Amnesty International.
