Five days have gone by since Harjinder Singh Jinda and Sukhdev Singh Sukha were hanged at Pune jail for the murder of General A.S. Vaidya. The atmosphere throughout the Punjab is tense though outwardly life appears to be returning to normal. Nevertheless security forces and army units are very much in evidence in all the important cities, towns and villages. Clearly the Indian authorities cannot afford to have served to alienate the Sikh community beyond recall. An uneasy peace prevails and there have been no reprisal killings. But the question on everybody’s lips is: Is this the lull before the storm? Only time will tell how the militant will react to this latest round of state oppression, There appears to be no light at the end of the Punjab tunnel,
