Amrik S. Gill receiver his bachelor’s degree in agriculture in 1947 from Government Agriculture College Lyallpur (Pakistan) for a year and a half he worked as a farm manage at Allahabad and for five years as instructor in teacher’s training school Moga. Later he went to construction business specializing in bridges. For 2¢€ years he took government contracts in civil engineering in various states o! India. This was a great opportunity for him to travel widely in India. For a short time he also started a factory manufacturing engineering goods at Kanpur.
Socially he has been very active. While at Moga he organized social service camp and tournaments. He has been secretary of G.H.G. Khalsa College Gurusar Sadhar for seven years.
He and his wife came to U.S.A. in 1981. He took a course in accounts with MT I. and started his career as insurance agent with Prudential. In 1982 Sikh educational and cultural organization was formed. Sunday school was started at Gurdwara Sahib Stockton and organized two camps for children. He has been Treasurer of the same.
In 1984 when Indian Government attacked Golden Temple he took the lead in organizing Sikhs of California. Sikh solidarity was formed of which he was the convener. Sikh solidarity was merged with World Sikh Organization, In September of the same year he helped to convene a meeting of various organizations at Gurdwara Sahib Stockton in which it was decided to start a weekly English newspaper from Stockton. The burden to start World Sikh News came on his shoulders. He took the Sikh community with him in arranging the funds and promoting the paper along with managing the day to day affair during the first three crucial years. He is still associated with its management,
He is proud of his wife Ravinder, without her help he could not participate so actively. Gills have two Sons Jatinder and Rajinder who are happily married and well settled.
