CHANDIGARE, India: Mr. Ravi Nayyar. Secretary of Amnesty International Indian section, in a statement has said that Mr, Ved Parkash Gupta is not an associate member of the Indian section since 1985 and he was currently under suspension for making false claims on its behalf. No Indian section member is allowed to collect the information on human rights violations in India as stipulated in the memorandum of the Association and the rules and regulations of the Indian section for the Amnesty International. Mr. Nayyar said the collection of information of human rights violations in any part of the globe is done solely by the Research Department of Internal Secretariat of International Amnesty based in London. Mr. Gupta, it may be recalled had made a statement recently that Amnesty has got no reports of fake encounters in Punjab. Mr. Nayyar described Mr. Gupta’s statement as false and mischievous.
