VERNON,CT: The Democratic Town Committee chose Amarjit S. Buttar to fill a Vacant spot on the Board of Education.

Bullar, 57. of Kenneth Drive replaces James Michaud.

Buttar has lived in Vernon for 18 years, and has two sons – one who graduated from Rockville High School four years ago, and the other is a freshman there. He previously served two terms on the Water Pollution Control Authority, and has been a Democratic Town Committee member for about a dozen years.

Bullar is a paralegal specialist for the state His experience of seeing people who did not know how to fill out a basic form prompted his idea for a high school course that would teach seniors such basics before they graduate.

That is one of three areas he would like to work on as a school board member, he said. He also would like to convince students to stop smoking and to find some answers about gang activities.

“I’d like to see the Town of Vernon as an all-American city,” he said. A native of Ludhiana, Punjab who has four college degrees, said this country, the state and the town have been good to him and his family.
