SAN JOSE: Amarjeet Dhillon apparently fell into the street and was run over and killed by a Santa Clara County Transit District bus on The Alameda on Thursday, a transit spokeswoman said.
41 year old Amarjeet Singh Dhillon of San Jose, reportedly had been slumped on a bus bench on The Alameda at Keebler Avenue when a bus carrying six or eight passengers pulled up to the stop, said County Transit spokeswoman Michelle Waugh.
She said eyewitnesses reported that Dhillon appeared to fall into the street as the bus was pulling out and the rear wheels of the coach ran over him.
According to Waugh, police said, “there was no way the operator could have avoided, “the accident”.
The driver, Manuel Haywood, and the bus were taken out of service, Waugh said. She said Haywood has been a driver since 1981 and has a good driving record.
Amarjeet Dhillon is the son of Piara Singh of village Nangal Mallian in Jullunder District.
