ALLAHABAD (PTI): Dr. M. Sharma, reader in the physics department of the Allahabad University, claims to have developed software for music named ‘Smriti” in October last year.
Demonstrating his software to reporters, Dr. Sharma said his software not only accepts the Indian musical notations (SA, Re, Ga — Do, Re, Ne) but also displays them on the computer screen with proper timings. It also enables the user musician to perform all the ornamental nuances of classical music such as “Meerh,” “Khatka” and ‘Murki” by using simple symbols in the data.
Dr. Sharma explained that the composer can record the whole composition on a certain base frequency and subsequently alterative he/she has to perform with another instrumentalist who has tuned his/her instrument to a nonstandard frequency. ‘The package has been written in “basic” language with a source code of orotund 25 kilobytes and. executable file of about 100 kilo, bytes.
‘The package can be run on any, 8086/8088 P.C. and does not require large environment like “windows.”
‘The software according to Dr. Sharma is to encourage young people and to eliminate the phobia of computer Jargon from their mind.
