JALANDHAR: Several senior Akali leaders today welcomed the expulsion of Kuldip Singh Wadala from the Shiromani Akali Dal by the disciplinary committee of the party, describing it as a step in the right direction which would discourage others from stabbing the party in the back.
In a statement issued here, senior Akali leader and former minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur, Satnam Singh Chahal, Surjit Singh. Cheema and Swaroop Singh Dhesi, member of the executive committee of the SGPC besides several others said that Wadala’s expulsion would lead to a resurgence of Akali politics in the Doaba region as many Akali workers had stopped working actively because of what they described as “politics of groupism which had weakened the party ideologically.” Commenting on his stand for giving more representation to former extremists, the leaders said that if Khalistan was so dear to him that he had to revolt against the party, then he should prove his loyalty by dedicating one of his sons to the struggle.
