LUDHIANA: The President of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Talwandi), Jagdev Singh Talwandi, has held the Akali leadership responsible for aggravating the tragedy or Punjab.

Addressing a district-level convention at Fatehgarh Sahib, Talwandi observed that atrocities on She had increased on account of the past mistakes of Akali leaders. He warned that if these leaders failed to learn any lessons even now and did not get united under one banner, the repression of Sikhs would further increase for which history would never forgive them,

The veteran Akali leader recalled that he had felt the need for a united Panth and a couple of years ago gave up all posts to pave the way for Akali unity. But he deplored that the dal leadership failed to listen to him for their vested interests.

The huge gathering authorized Talwandi to accelerate attempts for bringing about unity among different Akali factions with one president, goal and constitution. It was felt that only such a strong united Akali Dal could pull Punjab and Sikhs out of the present nightmare and check elimination of youths in fake encounters.

Talwandi said he was mobilizing his party workers to be in a position to make other Akali factions see reason and come together under one platform. His party’s next conventions would be held at Mansa on August 27 and at Amritsar on August 30, he said.
