CHANDIGARH: A split occurred in the Akali Dal Youth Wing, headed by Mr. Perm Singh Chandumajra with the formation of a sixteen member Ad-Hoc committee to run its affairs. Mr. Gursharan Singh, Secretary of the Youth Wing, making the announcement said that the Youth Wing felt that Mr. Chandumajra had betrayed the Sikh masses. Instead of following the Sikh traditions, he had preferred a seat in the Cabinet. The newly created panel welcomed the twenty-seven Akali legislators and the other leaders who had resigned from the party-offices and went 10 the Golden Temple Complex.
