CHANDIGARK, India: ‘Akali Dal(L) has decided to boycott all meetings convened by the Punjab Governor, SS. Ray as he was trying to stifle the democratic processes in the State and bring back the Congress to power through the back door, The party has also decided to dissociate from all committees set up by the Governor. The decision was taken by the Akali Dal (L) working Committee at its meeting held here, the resolution adopted by the working. ‘Committee said the dismissal of the majority supported Akali Dal government and dissolution of the marketing committees and other semiautonomous bodies are ‘meant to promote the Congress (I) interests. By going back from the ‘sacred national commitments with Punjab accord, the Centre was willfully trying to push the Punjabis to the dangerous course of confrontation. The resolution condemned the killings of innocent persons in fake encounters to ‘cover up the administration’s failures to contain violence. The scale ‘of violence has gone up three times ‘over the past six months. The working committee was of the view that Centre has deepened the Punjab crisis by delaying the release of Jodhpur detainees, army deserters and punishment to those responsible for November, 1984, riots. The party through another resolution called for a Panthic unity and urged all concerned to come under the banner of the ‘Shromani Akali Dal after sinking their narrow personal prejudices. The party decided to continue mobilizing the public opinion against all kinds of violence.
