CHANDIGARH: The Shiromani Akali Dal (Longowal) has amended its constitution to throw open its membership to all communities.
Addressing newspersons here party General Secretary Capt. Kanwaljit Singh said that earlier the membership of the party was open to Amrit dhari Sikhs only.
The move according to him was aimed at making the panty more broad based. The party would now allow all adults subscribing to its Constitution to become members.
The development comes w the wake of the Bill seeking to separate religion from politics The Bill would have far-reaching repercussions for the other Akali Dals and they would have to follow still sooner or later.
