CHANDIGARH: The Babbar Akali Dal October 10, said that the Akali Dal (B) and its allied Panthic organizations were exploiting the execution of Harjinder Singh Jinda and Sukhwinder Singh Sukha for political gains and had given the three-day bandh call to establish their last credibility among the Sikh.
Addressing a Press conference after their release from jail recently, the president of the Babbar Akali Dal, Kartar Singh and its general secretary, Prof Barjinder Singh, alleged that the traditional Akalis had no ideological affinity with Sukha and Jinda. They were merely indulging in gimmicks by issuing a three-day bandh call, the Babbar Akali Dal leaders alleged,
They averred that people had extended their support to the three day bandh call as it was related to the “martyrdom” of Sukha and Jinda.
Prof Barjinder Singh said that the party executive would soon announce a mass action program to further the ongoing Sikh struggle.
On the fate of the six Panthic Organizations that had united last February to boycott the elections, Narang said panthic unity won just a formality,” Dubbing the Akali Dal (B), Singh Badal, the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee chief, Gurcharan Singh Tohra, and the president of the nascent Akali Dal (Manjit), his Manjit Singh, as “opportunists,” Narang said that though these leaders had adopted the goal of Sukha and Jinda, they were “betrayers and liars” and hence, could not be trusted.
Prof Barjinder Singh alleged that instead of working jointly for the cause of the Sikh community, the traditional Akalis were indulging in competitive politics which had led to the breaking of the alliance. However, he did not rule out the possibility of joining hands with the Akali Dal (Mann) and the Akali Dal (Baba Joginder Singh), who was ideologically close to them.
