Dear Editor,
I have been reading with interest “Hi-jacking of Akal Takhat Sahib by Dr. Harjinder Singh Dilgir, processor of Sikh Studies, which has been apparently regularly in the World Sikh News. I think Dr. Dilgir has donc a commendable job in putting to ponand boloro the reading public – the recent events regarding Shri Akal Takhat Sahib along with its historical perspective and position.
What upsets me is that all times inaccuracies are portrayed. One such inaccuracy I detected recently in the June 30, 1995 issue of the World Sikh News. On page 2.column 2. Dr. Dilgir mentioned, “vaid Amarjit Singh was a class-fellow of Bhai Pritam Singh Sekhon..and Ranjit Singh (N.Y.).” It is not true. Ranjit Singh and Pritam Singh Sekhon are both veterinarians by training and were not even contemporaries at any level in their academic career.
I do not know the academic background of Amarjit Singh, but I do know that he is not a veterinarian. Thus, the three were never contemporaries, let alone classmates.
Whereas I do recognize and respect Dr. Dilgir’s contribution to the Sikh sangharsh, I would strongly suggest that he should verify the facts before putting them in writing. Such errors could compromise and jcopardize the credibility of his writing. Amarjit S. Buttar Vemon, CT.
