NEW DELHI(PTI): Ajit Singh, leader of one of the breakaway factions of former premier V.P.Singh’s Janata Dal, is likely to be the chairman of the Unified Janata Dal’ scentral parliamentary board, according to highly placed sources, reported here Sept.30.
An agreement to this effect is likely to be reached among the five member committee constituted to suggest the organizational stnicture of the merged party, which has been brought together to fight the influence of the largest opposition Bhartiya Janata party ahead of assembly elections in four nor them states.
Three erstwhile factions of the Janata Dal, who agreed to the unification on Wednesday, are also believed to have agreed on the continuance of S.R. Bommai as the Janata Da! President, while Mufti Mohammad Sayeed will be the new vice president, highly placed sources said
The Parliamentary board will have 22 members belonging to all the three erstwhile factions including V.P.Singh, Chandrasekhar, DeviLal, Laloo Prasad Yadav,Ram Vilas Paswan, Biju Patnaik, Rama Krishna Hegde, SJaipal Reddy, Yashwant Sinha and George Femandes.
The five member committee, which met on Wednesday night and had discussions during the day, is expected to put its seal of approval cither on Thursday night or on Friday.
