NEW DELHI: India’s opposition Janata Dal party’s senior leader Ajit Singh Monday demanded convening of a meeting of the Party’s national executive soon to discuss the crisis in the party. Talking to reporters here, he said party president S R Bommai had earlier committed to convening the national executive by this month-end and this should be done without fail.
Ajit Singh described Sunday’s decision of the political affairs committee (PAC), reposing faith in Bommai’s leadership as “unilateral and unconstitutional”,
Many senior leaders like George Fernandes, Biju Patnaik and Ram Vilas Paswan were not present at July 21 meeting, he pointed out.
He said the PAC had no legal existence under the provisions of the constitution and was only an informal group of leaders without any decision-making power,
About the appointment of new officer bearers, Ajit Singh said it looked like a “factional list” It showed that the leadership had not understood the spirit of his criticism, he said an added” but I will continue to raise issues,” He said it was also clear that they (former premier VP Singh and Bommai) were not prepared to share power with others.
The former industry minister said he did not clamor for the party president ship and would have been happy had it been given to a leader like George Fernandes who, he said, had experience and would not take sides.
