JALANDHAR; All India Sikh Students Federation (Mehta) has demanded that the Akal Takht acting jathedar Manjit Singh should immediately step down from his post.
Talking to media persons here last week the federation president Bhai Rajinder Singh Mehta said that Singh had sullied the image of the holy Akal Takht by involving it in politics. The Akal Takht jathedar had acted on the directions of SGPC chief G.S. Tohra and thus had degraded the status of the Takht.
He alleged that the Akal Takht jathedar had pardoned the former Union home minister Buta Singh and Akali Dal (Master Tart Singh) president Rachhpal Singh as part of the government conspiracy against the Sikhs.
The federation which recognized Jasbir Singh Rode as the jathedar of the Akal Takht and did not join hands with five other factions of the federation which merged into one federation last month under the blessings of Manjit Singh demanded that the Akal Takht jathedar should be appointed by sahat Khalsa and not by the SGPC which they claimed was not a representative body of the Sikhs.
