CHANDIGAR, India: Mr. Gurjit Singh, President of AISS.P, has ruled out any Possibility of forging a unity with any faction of Akali Dals and ‘accepting Prof. Darshan Singh as Jathedar of Akal Takht.
Mr. Gurjit Singh declared that Prof. Darshan Singh has damaged the movement more than anyone else. Accepting him as Jathedar was out of question, he added. He further said, “However it he wants to return he should offer forgiveness and totally support the cause of Khalistan.
The A.ISS.F. leader complained that Prof. Darshan Singh PS gone back from certain promises that he made to the freedom fighters at the time of his appointment as acting Jathedar of Akal Takht, Mr. Gurjit Singh said that he had made it clear to him that ‘our objective was Khalistan, Mr. Darshan Singh promised that h ‘would not oppose it, but his path for achieving this goal was different, ALS’S.F, leader stated, Mr Gurjit Singh told the newsman that he himself had shown the resolution of Khalistan later passed by Sarbat Khalsa on January 26, 1986 to Mr. Ragi. In fact according to him, he (Ragi) had proposed some amendments to that resolution. Now he claimed that he had never seen that resolution, the A.LSS.F, leader added.
Mr. Gurjit Singh also claimed that the freedom fighters had assured Darshan Singh about putting an end to the extortion of money and putting of posters in the Golden Temple Complex. He said that the posters objected by Darshan Singh ‘were removed with all these steps, Darshan Singh was satisfied and issued a statement to this effect that no controversial issue should be taken to the media.
The AIS.S.F. Leader declared that the freedom fighters will oppose the formation of any popular ministry in the State. He was referring to the speculation over the possible release of U.A.D, leaders as the Government intended to initiate the process of ministry formation.
He categorically declared that the freedom fighters will not allow Akalis to gain power at their cost.
Mr Gurjit Singh, who carries a reward of Rs. one lakh, on his head, was addressing a press conference at a Gurdwara at Chandigarh on Sunday, October 25, 1987. During this period, the A.IS.S.F, President replied to a wide range of questions including his relations with some Central leaders. Another A.[S. S.F. activist, Mr. Sher Singh was also present at the press conference Mr. Sher Singh carries an award of Rs, 50,000 on his head.
Mr Guriit Singh indicated that the freedom fighters have come under pressure, since the imposing of President’s rule in Punjab. Their direct contact with the people had snapped because of the denial of the police to allow them to hold public meetings. Even the ‘access to mass media had become difficult, He disclosed that some of their workers had been arrested while circulating some news to the media. The security forces had become much aggressive and even in certain areas; the police had allegedly threatened the families of the freedom fighters,
AISSF. Leaders alleged that Bhai Manbir Singh Chhehru had been killed in a false encounter and Bhai Tarsem Singh Kohera is going to meet the same fate.
Referring to frequent charges that he had relations with the speaker of Lok Sabha, Mr, Jakkar and Tarlochan Singh Riasti Mr. Gurjt Singh stated that he had absolutely no relations with anyone. As regards Riasti, Mr. Gurjit Singh stated that personally head never met with him, his maternal uncle, S. Hakam Singh Brar, who acted as bodyguard to Sant Bhindranwale was known to him me since childhood. He made another comment that he was prepared to undergo any punishment if these charges were proved correct.
Turning to the question of having a dialogue with the Centre, Mr. Gurjit Singh said that there can never be any point in talking to them, except on the issue of Khalistan, He declared that we are prepared to talk to the Prime Minister only at Akal Takht and we will not have any dialogue with any other person, the agenda will include Khalistan.
Referring to the charge of his role in the disappearance of Abhnashi Singh and Dr. D.S. Brar, Mr. Gurjit Singh denied any connection or association with their disappearance; He alleged that the police was trying to implicate him in these cases without any base or charge. He suspected that Akal factions or the police might be responsible for their kidnapping. Mr. Guajt Singh agreed to the general view that both were no ‘more in this world.
The AISS.F. Leader did not deny the involvement of Pakistan in the freedom fighters’ movement In fact; he said that we were trying to get the support of all friendly countries for the establishment of Khalistan.
