JAMMU: Authorities have stopped financial assistance and relief measures to 3000 migrants after detecting that they were preparing fake migrant ration cards in Jammu, Udhampur and Kathua cities.

These orders were passed by Virender Prakash, advisor to the Slate governor at a meeting of commandants of relief camps, zonal officers of the relief department here.

Authorities also ordered the arrest of two persons on charges of impersonation as gazetted officers for verifying false claims in Jhiri and Nagrota camp and criminal proceedings have been launched against them.

Migrants were warned that deterrent action would be taken against those who would indulge in fraudulent practices or create indiscipline at relief counter.

More than 80,000 people, mainly Hindus have migrated from the Kashmir valley.

Jammu and Kashmiris the only Muslim majority state in India where Hindus constitute about 8% of the total population.
