JAMMU (PTI): India’s opposition Bharatiya Janata Pany (BJP) president L. K Advani attacked the Centers bankruptcy of policy on Kashmir saying his party’s fortnight-long agitation in Jammu would highlight the authority’s failure in tackling the situation in the strife-tom state.

Addressing a press conference after his arrival from Delhi Mr. Advani said the handling of the Kashmir issue was one of the worst failures during the three-year Congress-I rule

He said though BJP had warned the government about the spillover of militancy from Kashmir to the Jammu region but a lack of unified command coupled with a failure to adopt a firm policy on the issue allowed the situation to deteriorate. The government should deal with insurgency and not toy with the idea of political initiatives he said when asked what steps should the government take to bring peace in Kashmir.

The BJP does not view Kashmir as a problem between India and Pakistan he said and referred to the Parliament resolution on Kashmir. It clearly says that Pakistan is no party in the dispute but an aggressor he said.

The Central government has no night to depart from this commitment of the highest forum in the country he said): aiding ESTE would not reconcile with any promise which would weaken India’s unity on Kashmir.
