Words cannot describe the valor Of the two stoic warriors of the Sikh nation, Harjinder Singh Jinda and Sukhdev Singh together constitute the monument of the Sikh nation. The courage and sacrifice exhibited by these two products of the Sikh revolution will be the guiding light for the revolutionaries of tomorrow.

They made sacrifice an instrument for stealing their character and forging the morale of their comrades, They added to the skeleton of words with which we describe their deeds, the vitality, intelligence and audacity; all these in such a proportion as is rare in persons of history.

They were hanged to death on Oct.9, 1992.

Who hanged them?

We should rather ask, who destroyed their bodies because men like them do not die.

Their life docs not end so long as the people do not will it.

‘The enemy succeeded in killing them because they Jaughed in the face of danger. They did not fear it, they used it for diversion, mocked it, played with it. Because of their extraordinary courage they did not postpone a plan because of apparent hazards. It would be Proper to say that their own character killed them because a crawling and cowardly enemy cannot kill lions on the stalk.

When the great Sikh leader Sant Bhindrawale, who had undertaken the task of creating awareness in the Sikh nation was trying to reawaken the Sikhs from their slumber, Sukhdev and Jinda were college students. They were devotees of the great leader. They took inspiration from the speeches and Sayings of Bhindrawale. ‘The Operation Blue Starin which parts of the Golden Temple were razed and many a valiant Sikh along with Sant Bhindrawale tasted martyrdom, left a deep impression on the minds of both Sukhdev and Jinda. All Sikhs were shocked at the heinous act of the Hindu fascist government but Jinda and Sukhdev did not cry like the others, their hearts bled but they did not express the sorrow they felt. They instead vowed to lake revenge from those responsible for the atrocities against Sikhs. At the time of the Golden Temple incident General Vaidhya was the chief of Army Staff of the Indian army. By the time Sukhdev and Jinda prepared to eliminate him, he had retired from his military service and was living a peaceful life at his ancestral residence in Poona.

After locating his residence they finally shot dead the retired General Vaidhya on Aug, 10, 1986.

Earlier they eliminated Lalit Makhan who was soninlaw of the present president of India along on July 5, 1985.

Lalit Makhan was an avowed enemy of the Sikhs and was responsible for the anti-Sikh not’s in Delhi. Later they also killed Arjun Dass who was an MP of the Indian Parliament. He was also one of the evil minds who planned the anti-Sikh riots. After eliminating these top enemies of the Sikh nation they undertook the task of avenging the death of innocent Sikh youth who had been gunned down by police officers after implicating them in false cases and staging fake police encounters. But unfortunately on the fateful day of Sept. 7, 1986 Sukhdev was arrested, After Sukhdev’s arrest Jinda alone undertook the massive task of completing the unfinished work. His courage had made him an idol of the Sikh youth and soon he was able to form an effective group which came to be called the Jinda Group. The Jinda Group as its first duty gunned down police officers who had shot dead innocent Sikh youth.

Later the Jinda Group committed the biggest bank robbery in the history of India and looted 5 crore 70 lakh rupees from the Punjab National Bank (Chest Branch). They distributed this money amongst Sikh militant groups and families of victims who had fallen prey to the atrocities of the fascist Hindu Junta. They honestly, believed that they had taken compensation for the Sikhs by force. Jinda Group achieved hundreds of targets which took the Sikh movement for freedom to its peak. He was the soldier of hundreds of battles, the revolutionary who changed the face of all bates he fought. The success of Jinda Group became a nightmare for the Hindu fascists.

Jinda’s bravery blinded the Hindus; he stuck terror in their hearts, so much so that they started seeing things. One agency would report that Jinda was seen at such and such a place another would give an entirely different location. Finally the India CBI managed to infiltrate the Jinda Group and on Aug. 30, 1987 Jinda was arrested in Delhi, On Sept. 2, 1988 a case was filed against Jinda and Sukhdev, the proceedings started on Nov. 3, 1988 and on the darkest day of the Sikh nation, Oct. 2, 1992 they were hanged to death. Even their death was no ordinary matter they passed into history with the same valor they had exhibited in their lifetime.

The two exhibited rare courage by requesting the court to distribute sweets on their death because they felt that their blood would lay the foundation for a free Sikh state, With this idea in mind they walked into the mouth of death.

Their death wish was not granted so they themselves bought the sweets and distributed them amongst the inmates of the jail_ In death also they stood tall like in life, their knees did not tremble. They walked up to the gallows swaggeringly, chanting Bolay Sonihal, to which the jail inmates responded by shouting Sat Siri Akal. Thus the duo met death with open arms.

“The noise of the falling wooden plank pulled from undemeath their feet was the last sound that connected them with this world. They had offered the supreme sacrifice of life at the alter of freedom.

Their death raised the morale of the Sikh nation which was till there reeling under the yoke of Hindu tyrants. Their death showed the way to other Sikh youths. The message was clear ‘fight till victory.”

There have been Sukhdevs and Jindas and there will be Sukhdey and Jindas. Every atrocity by the Hindu fascists will culminate in the birth of their like. They will also be hanged like their predecessors, The play of death and life will go on until Khalistan is freed Long life Khalistan.
