PATIALA, Punjab, India: The Presidium of the All India Sikh Student Federation

(Manjit Group), has constituted a seven member committee to meet Prof. Darshan Singh, the Acting Jathedar of the Akal Takht, to discuss the latest situation and for maintaining the status and tradition of Akal Takht,

The decision was taken at a Meeting of the Presidium held at a secret place near Fatehgarh Sahib today. The deliberations of the meeting were circulated by Mr. Baljit Singh Khalsa, Press Secretary of AISSF (Manjit).

The Presidium appealed to the Sikh High Priests that they should actively work for up keeping the high traditions of Akal Takht in the present crisis. It said that the status and tradition of Akal Takht ‘would be maintained at all costs: and any move to denigrate it would not be tolerated. The meeting also discussed steps for making the twoday strike on September 1 and 2 in educational institutions of Punjab and Chandigarh a success. It warned the government not to spoil atmosphere by creating hurdles in the strike.

 The strike was against false en counters and for the release of youths detained ‘in Jodhpur and other jails, release and rehabilitation of the Army deserters and release of Mr. Simranjit Singh Mann, Bhai Jasbir Singh and Bhai Jasbir Singh and Bhai Gurdev Singh.

The meeting condemned the illegal detention of the brother of Mr. Kulwant Singh Kanwal, a member of the Presidium, by the CIA staff of Hisar and asked the Haryana government to release him immediately. It also asked the Punjab government to lift gherao of the house of Baba Joginder Singh, otherwise some stern steps would be taken.

Mr, Baljit Singh said that the Federation was in favor of the demands of the university and college teachers.

The meeting appointed Mr. Major Singh Rattangarh as Acting President of Ropar district and Manjit Singh of Bathinda district. Mr. Sukhdev Singh was appointed President of the Samana circle.

The meeting of the Presidium was attended among others by Mr. Rajinder Singh, Mr. Kulwant Singh Kanwal, Mr. Sukhminder Singh Kapurthala, Mr. Gurdeep Singh Bathinda and Mr. Major Singh Rattangarh.
