Gen Labh Singh was the Chief General of the Khalistan Commando Force when he was murdered in what is now known as a false encounter on July 12 1992.
The General one of the most respected and beloved militant leaders after Sant Bhindrawale he began his career in 1978 after the infamous Nirankari Massacre in Amritsar Answering the all of his mentor he struck out valiantly against the oppressors of his Sikh brothers.
Standing by the side of Sant Bhindrawale in the final hours of the attack on Darbar Sahib in 1984 he was apprehended by the military forces and taken to Jodhpur Jail.
On the way to his court appearance in Jalandhar he was rescued by General Hari Singh who attacked the police and made possible the escape of Gen Labh Singh He then joined the struggle Is one of the most charismatic of the underground leaders serving Is an inspiration to the disenfranchised Sikh youth
His famous attack on PAP headquarters caused the then DGP of Punjab Julio Ribeiro to leave his post and flee the country. General Labh Singh became one of the most feared of the underground leaders leaving officials quailing of his ability to wreak havoc.
In 1992 he was betrayed by a government sympathizer to the police who arrested him from his hide-out. He never made it to trial cut down in an encounter before he could face his accusers. Last week a Shaheedi Samagam was held at Fremont Gurdwara where the special guest was General Labh Singhs widow and two young sons. The Gurdwara Committee honored his memory by presenting a Siropa to his wife Bibi Devinder Kaur
On the 24thof July in memorial of his death The Sikh Cultural Society of New York will also observe the Shaheedi Samagam of General Labh Singh.
