NEW DELHI: National human rights commission has summoned home secretary of Punjab.
S.K. Arora, last month to seek his explanation on the abduction of four lawyers including .Suk -winder Singh Bhatti ,a well-known activist who was killed.
The commission has rejected the state’s chief secretary’s report. A commission officer said “it was wish washy.”
Several human right activists and lawyers associations here and, abroad had petitioned the commission alleging police hand in the mysterious disappearance of the four lawyers: Kulwant Singh, Jagwinder Singh, Ranbir Singh Mansahia and Bhatti.
The commission sources said Amnesty International had alter complained about Bhatt’s case Other human rights activists and lawyer associations had sought the commission’s indulgence in trading these lawyers, who were feared to have been done away with by the police.
The commission’s chairman Ranga Nath M’sra, former chief justice of India, and other members yesterday considered the Punjab government’s report and directed its chit! Secretary. A.S. Chahatha, to ensure that the home secretary was present before the commission, sources Said.
