ISLAMABAD: Pakistan closed its consulate in Bombay on March 20.

A Foreign Office spokesman attributed the closure of the consulate which was opened only recently with immediate effect to the non-cooperate and negative attitude of the Indian authorities.

Indian High Commissioner S.K-Lambah was summoned to the Foreign Office by Foreign Secretary Shahrayar Khan on March 20 and conveyed the decision. — ‘The spokesman said the Indian Government had gone back on its commitment to lease the Jinnah house for the use of the Consulate General Subsequently the Indian authorities had refused to facilitate the acquisition of suitable premises for the Consulate General.

In a Statement the spokesman further said the Maharashta in State Government had in effect acted in a manner that made it extremely difficult for the Consulate General to carry Out its assigned functions This decision was taken because the Consulate General found it impossible to function effectively due to the non-cooperative and negative attitude of the Indian authorities
