JAMMU: The differences in the All Party Hurriyat Conference have finally come into the open with the People’s League supremo, Shabbir Shah criticizing the present functioning of the conglomerate.
Attending the general council meeting of the Hurriyat recently, in Srinagar, Shabbir Shah has proposed the formation of a single Organization of those who are struggling for the right of self-determination, with representation from all parts of the state including Jammu and Ladakh.
Shabbir Shah, who was released from jail recently, had visited Jammu and Ladakh regions and received tremendous response from the general public.
He also suggested an eight point plan to make Hurriyat conference a single party with single leadership.
He opined that all the units of the Hurriyat Conference should immediately do away with their separate entities and merge into a single Organization. He also wanted the party to elect a single leader.
Other suggestions included admission of people from Jammu and Ladakh into the party, and identification of “gun wielding culprits” masquerading as Mujahideen’s, to preserve the purity of the movement.
He also wanted a common social welfare institution which could render assistance to orphans, widows and other destitute, and formulation of a code of conduct to ensure the freedom of the professional organizations of intellectuals, writers and journalists.
Shah also suggested the evolution of a joint policy on the question of the return of Kashmiri Pandits to the Valley and steps for immediate solution to this issue. He also emphasized the need to mobilize public opinion in favor of the movement by educating the people outside the state and at the international level about the genuine demands of the Kashmiris.
