Thanks for your story (WSN; 1/28/94) on the Conference on the Transmission of Sikh Heritage to Diaspora Organized by the Sikh Studies Chair at University of Michigan (SSCUOM). But Sir I cannot let go unchallenged this yet another fabrication by your reporter that the conference is closed to the Sikhs who contributed to establish the Chair The lie fur exceeds his transgression of Naale raah wich haggnaan nate aane taddanaant
Yes the University of Michigan true to its reputation conducted the conference at the level of its graduate programs; because this particular endowment cannot afford to stage tamasha as for the hobbyists. Unlike conferences elsewhere no presentation was Censored no speaker was insulted and no entrant was debarred. Here the academic proceedings and the civility of intellectual debate was superb and exemplary.
From the vantage of intimate knowledge of this endowment-ever since its inception i can assure you that neither your reporter nor his community has ever contributed more than childish pricks and pranks. Contrarily like the proverbial Mirasis they have reneged on their commitments and now all this Wawelaa of Sikh ethics yet they are always welcome to become copartners in this endowment effort. Though let not the Sikhs be fooled by their gamesmanship of Na khedaan ge naa khedan diaan ge.
Their wishful forecasts of demise of SSCUOM have been premature Guru di mehr naal and happily for the Sikhs this venture is now an established fact a going concern and here to stay. It has succeeded better than envisioned thanks to all the free publicity brought about by its detractors.
