Justice G.C.Garg dubbed the press in the country as the most irresponsible in the world. He was responding to a demand of the former union law minister Jagannath Kaushal who is the counsel for the accused Superintendent of Police Sukhdev Singh China to ask the press to act in a more responsible manner
Kaushal said that the press haa already convicted the policemen even before a proper trial could begin it amounts to a contempt of court my lord he said. Justice AP.Choudhry said it has always been the case but if a judicial officer is fully competent then I don’t think newspaper reports could influence him.
Justice Garg retorted it is the most irresponsible press in the world. He however did not list any instance.
Counsel for the petitioners G.S.Garewal objected to this saying black out of press will be worse.
To this Justice Chaudhry said we are not passing any order. But would say the press should act in a more responsible manner.
