NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has ordered a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the alleged abduction of three brothers from their Barar village in Gurdaspur district, two years ago. Their whereabouts were still not known to the members of their family, though the police claimed before the court that they had gone over to Pakistan. While issuing the aforementioned directives last week, the three judge bench consisting Justice Kuldip Singh, Justice R.M. Sahai and Justice B.L, Hens aria asked the CBI to submit its report within six weeks. The order was passed on the petition of Ms. Pritam Kaur Baryar, alleging that on the intervening night of December7 and 8, 1992, about 15 policemen, most of them wearing uniforms, abducted heather brothers from their village. And till today she had not been able to ascertain their whereabouts, though she had met top police officers in Punjab. She further disclosed that her brothers were seen by one Rafique during January last year while being tortured at the CIA office in Kapurthala. Interestingly, the witness has been now shown ‘absconding” by the police.
