JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir Governor, K.V.Krishna Rao has sounded the Prime Minister, P.V.Narsimha Rao against the proposed move to have political advisors, K.V Krishna Rao has reportedly told the Prime Minister that initiation of the so-called political process by installing political advisors and that such a measure could prove counterproductive in the prevailing circumstances.
He has conveyed to the Center that the move to initiate political process as envisaged by the Union Minister of State for Home, Rajesh Pilot could wait for another three to four months when the fear of the gun could be minimized.
After the resolution of the Hazratbal crisis resulting in increased infighting and confusion amongst the militant ranks, the security forces have mounted an all-out offensive against them in Kashmir Valley. The capture of Sopore town, which was considered as liberated zone in a swift operation last month has further given operation l hack to the morale of the militants.
K.V.Krishna Rao believes that the move to have political advisors would give wrong signals at a time when the fight against militancy has entered a crucial phase. He has been for maintaining the pressure on the militants.
On the other hand, the Union Minister of State for internal security, Rajesh Pilot, who after being side lined from Kashmir for some time has again started asserting himself.
Senior Congress leaders INN state led by Ghulam Rasool Kar, (J) chief have been pressurizing Rajesh Pilot and the central leader ship to have their own way in dealing with Kashmir situation, They argue that the present gains in valley should not be fettered away and # strategy with political initiative to mitigate the sufferings of tie common people was the need of the hour.
However, there is no love lost between the state Governor and these: Congress leaders. Kar has been openly criticizing the Governor while KV. Krishna Rao has made his opinion known against bringing back discredited politicians to scats of power through backdoor, The Governor wants that firstly the political leaders should stay put in the valley to do some political work amongst the people. He has been of the opinion that the politicians should only come to power after taking due mandate from the people.
This controversy has even led to the talk by Congress leaders of replacing the Governor with some political Governor.
Security officials maintain that premature talk of initiation of political process by involving discredited Leaders of Congress and National Conference would not only send wrong signals to the people but would give the militants who are under pressure to bounce back and exploit it
Secondly some of the local leaders who are presently helping the security forces in winning back the confidence of the people would retrace their steps,
They maintain that earlier visits by Rajesh Pilot to the valley had no impact in winning back the confidence of the people. Most of the promises made by him about providing employment and developmental works remain unfulfilled, Even the economic package agreed upon by the Center in consultation with state Governor last month has yet to be announced.
