CHANDIGARH: The weapons confiscated by the police continue to be allotted to the influential persons for a song by the Punjab Government. Some of the VIP “families have cornered as many as four weapons in recent months.

About two dozen VIPs have benefitted from this largesse under the Beant Singh Government. Topping the Beant Singh list is the Director General of Police, K:P:S. Gill, who has been allotted a 30 carbine, a prohibited bore weapon. ‘One double barrel gun and a.315 rifle have been allotted in the name of his wife, Heminder Gill. His daughter, Chitvan Gill, has been “apportioned a 7.65 MM pistol.

The other beneficiaries include SP. Kurdukar, Chief Justice, Punjab and Haryana High Court, who officiated as Punjab Governor after the death of Surendra Nath. He has been allocated a .32 bore pistol.

The Union Deputy Home Minister, Ram Lal Rahi, got a .32 bore pistol this year. Yudhvir Singh Dadwal, Inspector General of Police, Chandigarh Administration, has been allotted a rare German pistol (Mouser) and his Senior Superintendent of Police, C.S.R. Reddy, a .32 bore pistol.

The allotment of these weapons during an elected government is the discretion of the Chief Minister significantly, the conduct of some of the members of the Beant ‘Singh family is pending disposal with the police and in the High Court.

During the five years of the President’s rule, hundreds of weapons were allotted and the range of beneficiaries extended from the ‘peons in the civil secretariat to the Advisors to the Governor.
