WASHINGTON (PTI): President Bill Clinton has proposed two high level American economic and commercial delegations to advance Indo-U.S. bilateral ‘economic and commercial relations.
In a letter to Indian Prime Minister P.V, Narasimha Rao, President Clinton reaffirmed his commitment to a new ERA of Indo-American partnership across a broad range of common concern.
US undersecretary of commerce for international trade Jeffrey Garten will visit India in November to fay the groundwork for commerce secretary Ron Brown’s January visit with officials and businessmen. Garten, who will visit India from November 1418, was the first key American official to recognize the rising importance of India and to Secure highest level approval for his idea of listing India among the world’s 10 big emerging markets (Bem’s), with whom US trade is expected to be greater than the combined trade with Europe and Japan by the year 2010.
The other big emerging markets are China, South Korea, Indonesia, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, South Africa, Turkey and Poland.
On the political side, undersecretary of state for political affairs Peter I am off will be visiting India March 1926.
Defense secretary William Perry has given a concept paper to Indian ambassador Siddhartha Shankar Ray on his forthcoming Visit, expected from Jan.11.
