CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh police Chief Sumedh Saini was reportedly slapped by a Delhi police inspector last week in the Red Fort interrogation cell of the Indian intelligence bureau in connection with the questioning of a Sikh activist allegedly involved in the Radu abduction.
Saini rudely asked a Delhi police inspector to clean the Sikh youth as he was profusely bleeding after torture by Saini’s men. Saini holds all Sikhs responsible for the attack on him at Chandigarh two months ago.
The inspector who headed a police station at Delhi replied that it was not his job to clean the suspect. Evidently, the Sikh youth was so severely tortured that he lost control of his limbs and could not clean himself. The inspectors reply enraged Saini and he slapped the inspector for his “defiance”. But the Delhi police official was made of a stern stuff and he reciprocated with a counter-slap to Saini’s face. Saini’s men then pounced upon the police inspector and thoroughly roughed him up. The inspector sustained bruises all over. A Delhi police A.S.I. rushed to telephone senior Delhi officers to tell them of the incident.
Saini is known to be the blue boys of Prime Ministers house. His actions are upheld by Rao and his close civil and police officers even when Saini is in conflict with as senior a person as the governor of Punjab. Not long ago, a complaint was made by the Ropar district police chief against the illegal and highhanded activities of Saini the Punjab governor but the latter could not take any action Saini.
