MADRAS: The former Tamil Nadu home secretary, R Nagarajan an IAS officer, was arrested in the small hours of Thursday on charges of aiding, abetting and harboring members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) when he was the home secretary.
He was picked up from his Ashok Negar residence here by a police team led by the Tiruchi police superintendent, V Jagannathan, and they left for Tiruchi by road immediately.
Police sources in Madras confirmed that the 55yrold Nagarajan was arrested under Sections 3, 4,5 and 6 of the Terrorists and Disruptive Activities Act (TADA) on the bass of statements of two Sri Lankans S .Arandarajah (62) and K.Delvasikhanani (48) arrested in Tiruchi on Monday. They had allegedly confessed that Nagarajan used 10 help them in the smuggling of explosives fo the LTTE. Anandarajah is the uncle of Vicky alias Vigneswara who was arrested in Coimbatore on July 28 in connection with the manufacturing of grenades and other explosives.
Two militants – Dixon and Guna had committed suicide when confronted by the police. The Q branch police obtained the names of Anandara jhand Deivasikhamani from a diary seized from Tongonova ship crew who were arrested by the navy.
According to police sources, Nagarajan is also likely 10 be taken as accused if the assassination of the EPRLF leader, Padmanabha and 14 others in Madras last year. Some senior police officer shave stated that Nagarajan, had personally contacted them and instructed thatthe case need not be pursued.
