NEW DELHI (PTI): Law commission of India Dec. 10 suggested insertion of a new section to the Indian Penal Code (IPC) to deal exemplary punishment lo persons indulging in sale of any person under 18 years or a woman of any age.

In us 146th report, tabled in the lower house of Indian Parliament {Lok Sabha) by the minister of law, justice and company affairs H.R.Bhardwaj, the commission said after section 373 of IPC, a new section 373a might be inserted. The proposed section would cover a culprit who, in a case not falling under section 372 or section 373 of the IPC, sells, lets to hire or otherwise disposes of any person under the age of 18 years or any women of any age or buys, hires or otherwise obtains for consideration the possession of any such person or any woman, should be punished with imprisonment for a term which might extend to seven years and should also be liable to fine, The suggestion comes in the wake of few cases of selling of children by impoverished mothers in different Indian states and the recent cases of buying of brides by foreign nationals.
