BRUSSELS (PTI): India and European community will Signac “partnership and development” agreement here Dec.20 which will upgrade bilateral cooperation facilitating better access to community knowhow and technology and promoting commercial exchanges and investments.
Called the third generation agreement, it would aim at enhancing and developing through dialogue and partnership, the various aspects of cooperation between India and the European community in order to achieve a closer and upgraded relationship.
‘The agreement based on human rights and democratic principles Sells Out Cooperation in three major areas trade and commercial cooperation based on the “most favored nation” clause of the Galt, economic cooperation in several fields like energy, private sector telecommunications, agriculture, tourism and development cooperation targeted at poorer sections.
The agreement to be signed by commerce minister on behalf of India provides for setting up a joint commission to establish priorities in relation to the objectives of the agreement and examine ways and means of enhancing the partnership and development cooperation.
This is the first time such a comprehensive agreement is being signed by EC with a country in south Asia. The European community proposed to sign a similar agreement with Sri Lanka.
