CHANDIGARH: The cold wave currently sweeping Northwest India persisted menacingly in its rage with the mercury hovering between 1° to4°Cat several places in the region Dec. 16.

Srinagar showed the minimum temperature at 6°C, 4° below normal for the second consecutive day Thursday. In the plains, Adampur continued to be the coldest place in the region with the mercury showing 1°C.

 

The cold wave continued to be unremitting in its ferocity in the Kulu valley. The mercury hovered. At 1.5° at Bhunor in the valley. Amritsar turned out to be the second coldest place in Punjab after Adampur with the mercury hovering at 1.7°C, 3° below normal, at Patiala. Dharamsala, facing the commanding Dhaula dhar ranges, registered minimum temperature of 64°C, 3° below normal, while Shimla had a minimum temperature of S°C.
