NEW DELHI: Former Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice R.S.Nanula will head a nine member advisory committee which has been formed to suggest concrete Steps to Delhi Chief Minister Madan Lal Khurana to bring to book the guilty of the Nov.1984, tots in the capital.

Announcing this here Dec.16, Khurana said the committee would ‘Suggest to him the course of action that his government could take in this matter, keeping in mind its powers under the Constitution.

The other members of the committees, which will submit its first report after a month, include Lt. Gen Jagjit Singh Aurora, a former Bombay High Court Judge, U.R.Lalit, and a former Punjab and Haryana High Court Judge, D.V Sehgal.

Khurana said the issue of punishment to the riot guilty had been “taken lightly” as was proved by the fact that out of 190 persons, cases against whom were decided by courts in this regard, 174 had been acquitted while more than half of the reaming had been let off with fines ranging between Rs 50 and Rs 100.

He said this had shaken the confidence of the people which had been brought to his attention by a group of jurists, academicians and advocates who met him Wednesday following which the decision to set up the committee had been taken.

Khurana said during his meeting Wednesday, he was told by the jurists and advocates that there were certain steps that the Delhi government could take to bring the guilty to\the book despite the fact that law and order was beyond its purview.

The other members of the committee are Dr.Mahcep Singh, Virinder Singh Jauhar, Adarsh Kumar Goel, M.S.Butalia and Phooka.
