NEW DELHI: Madhavsinh Solanki, the external affairs minister, said that Pakistan’s attitude was the only dark cloud in the good relations India enjoyed with her neighbors in the subcontinent.
In two hours of discussions with the Romanian foreign minister, Andrian Nastase and other members of his delegation Solanki said that despites Pakistan’s public stance there was a vast difference between its prouncements and its actions. “Even you are aware of Pakistan’s abetment to separatists”, he pointed out, The kidnapping of the Romanian diplomat, Liviu Radu, he said, was cause for concern and anxiety for both Romania and India, Solanki condemned the militants for kid napping Radu in violation of established Indian traditions of hospitality.
EARLY RELEASE: The foreign minister assured the Romanian delegation that the govt was making all out efforts to secure the safe and early release of Radu. All resources were being used and India was working closely with the Romanian govt in this regard.
The hands of elements outside India were responsible for the unpardonable crime, “Solanki said, and wanted the world community to learn from the kidnapping so that they act together to censor and isolate those responsible.
Nastase, who is the first Romanian foreign minister to visit India in the last 10 years, was assisted during the talks by the Romanian ambassador, Nelu Ecinescu, and others, Solanki was assisted by I.P. Khosla, 2 secretaries in the ministry, the director general of ICR, and the joint secretaries for East Europe, commerce and economic affairs.
While discussing international relations Solanki referred to the tendency to project Promotion of human rights in a manner which militates against national sovereignty. Likewise, linking financial assistance to disarmament could lead to situations which are discriminatory, contractor and inappropriate he warned.
ON SOVIET UNION: Nastase gave a detailed account of the situation in Europe On Yugoslavia, both sides expressed concern and said no solution could be imposed from outside. Nastase also gave an assessment of the situation in the Soviet Union, especially in the republic to Moldavia, recognized by Romania as it is populated by people of Romanian origin.
The Romanian minister expressed gratitude for the eons being done o secret release of Radu. He was confident of a Peaceful and positive solution.
The joint commission meeting, both sides agreed that during the meeting scheduled in Bucharest in December, trade ties between both the countries could be discussed. A treaty on air transport between the Romanian airlines Taroma and Air Indi has already been signed, Arrangements being made to teach Indian languages 10 Romanian diplomats in India.
