NARORA (UTTAR PRADESH) :( PTI): The second unit of the Narora atomic power plant (NAAP) became critical Thursday, marking another important milestone in India’s nuclear program.
At full power, it will generate 235 megawatts. Commercial operation is expected to start early next year, S. L Kati, managing director of the nuclear power corporation, said.
Apart from Kati P.K.lyenga, chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission and other senior of facials of the dependent of atomic energy were present when the reactor became critical Thursday.
NAPP is a modified version of the power reactors in Kalpakkam near Madras.
The first unit of NAPP became critical the commissioning of the second unit at Narora, India’s nuclear power capacity rose to 1780 mw. But actual generation is less than 1000 mw since almost all the reactors are operating at less than maximum capacity.
