CHANDIGARH: A Punjab police party used bullet proof tractors to destroy a 20 acre private sugarcane farm at Sarohur village in Gurdaspur district, according to a report from Batala.
There was a genuine en counter between militants and the police near the village on the night of October 22-23, The militant, however, succeeded in slipping away from the encounter site leaving the police on tented hooks, Unable to decide on what to do, the Police allegedly destroyed the Sugarcane farm where the militants had taken shelter. After the night long firing the police collected the people of the village in the Gurdwara and picked up 40 Sikh youths at random. When they tied to take those youths along In Jeeps, the women, children and the old people blocked the Movement of vehicles as they would not allow the youth to thus taken away. Enraged by the public resistance to Police plans, a strong force came to the village in the evening to destroy the sugarcane flied.
