CHANDIGARH: The new Governor of Punjab Surendra Nath Thursday said that the problem in the State was not intractable.

Addressing administrative secretaries and the heads of departments here the new governor said that the best answer to militancy in the state was to accelerate the tempo of developmental activities

He said that his endeavor would be to provide an open government to the people and asked the officers to be readily accessible to the public.

The governor said that in the absence of an elected government the administration had added responsibility in reaching out the people and redressing their difficulties and problems.

Surendra Nath who Wednesday took over as the governor of Punjab said that schemes aimed at the welfare of youth would be accorded the highest priority by his administration so that meaningful opportunities were made available to the youth

He exhorted the officers to work with redoubled vigor greater motivation and added determination at a time when the state was reeling under violence.
