CHANDIGARH: Babbar Khalsa International has taken responsibility for an attempt at destroying the Sutlej-Yamuna Link Canal’s aqueduct over the Budki rivulet in Ropar district last week.
Bhai Amrik Singh Babbar in a statement issued on behalf of his organization said what the incident at Budki was merely a token action. He reminded the Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Bhajan Lal that more such actions would be taken later and described the rocket attack on the place as merely “a trailer”.
That the powerful B.K.I. appreciates the Supreme importance for Sikhs and Punjab the questions of water and power is indicated by the fact that Bhai Amrik Singh condemned the large scale corruption in the supply of power to the villages of Patiala, Ludhiana and Ropar districts. More Specifically, the B. K. I. spokesman said that officers received thousands of rupees from those who operated illegally installed motors in Serai Vanjara, Khamanon, Morinda, Bassi Pathanan, Ghunandgarh etc. The B.K.I. warmed the officers against their misdeeds. The B.K.I. also asked officers of Public Works Department to pay proper attention to the construction and maintenance of link roads in villages and not use substandard material; The Babbar Khalsa criticized the shopkeepers of Banur for downing shutters of their shops in support of Banur S.H.O., Baldev Singh. The B.K.I. accused the S.H.O. of grave atrocities on the Sikhs and any support or sympathy for the police officer was totally misplaced. Any, one Supporting the S.H.O. would be preceded against in accordance with Sikh tradition, the B.K.I. warned.
