CHANDIGARH: The All India Youth Akali Dal led by Sher Singh Doom chheri has supported the militant’s boycott of Punjab elections.

In a resolution adopted at its meeting here on Wednesday the AIYAD said the postponement of the Punjab poll by the Center had exposed its intentions on the demo- critic process and justified the boycott call.

The resolution said that the postponement of the poll was a slap on the face of those also who were contesting under the Panthic banner. It appealed to the Sikhs not to fall for the Center’s allurements and support the struggle for freedom of the Sikhs launched by militants and the AIYAD.

It said the ATYAD would not participate in any election under the present Constitution. The Punjab problem could be solved only with a dialogue with militants.

Another resolution condemned the repressive measures of the Government in Punjab for which 643 companies of the paramilitary forces had been deployed in the state, It criticized those not condemning the repression and said that ATYAD would launch a democratic struggle against the tyranny and picket police stations in which youth were detained illegally.

About 50 ATYAD leaders participated in the meeting including Doomchheri, Nidharak Singh Brar, Balwinder Singh Talwandi, Gurinder Pal Singh Dhanaula, Karam Singh Kotsukhia, Kulwant Singh Jaita, Suchdey Singh Gobindgarh and Balwant Singh Gill.

The ATYAD made it clear that it was an independent political organization having noting to do with any Akali Dal and recognized only the SGPC as an elected body of the Sikhs. The Youth Akali Dal would organize a seven day camp to strengthen the youth religiously, politically, economically and culturally. The meeting paid homage to all those who had sacrificed their life during the Sikh struggle from the Basakhi of 1978.

The meeting took notice of the recent statement of Bhajan Lal, on the Sutlej- Yamuna Link Canal and said no one would be allowed to “loot” Punjab waters. The ATYAD would join hands with the militants to dismantle the canal. It demanded the holding of elections to the Delhi; Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee which were due two years ago.
