FAIRFAX STATION: The First Annual Interstate Youth Kirtan Darbar was held at the Sikh Foundation of Virginia (SFV) Gurdwara Sahib, Fairfax Station, Virginia, on June 29, 1991. Youth Kirtan jathas from several states Participated in the program. Approximately, three hundred people attended the function. The entire program was performed by the youth. The program started with Vaak, Ardas, and introductions by Kirtan Darbar coordinator, S. Manbir Singh Kathuria. Kirtan was started by a younger group representing the Sikh Foundation of Virginia. There were two categories of youth (younger and older), and two jathas from each Organization, The intent of these programs is to make the youth responsible for conducting and participating in Gurdwara activities, so that today’s youth is ready for tomorrow’s responsibilities. Gurdwaras built by the first generation Sikhs will be preserved by future generations.
The program ended with a prize distribution by Dr. Ujagar Singh Bawa, concluding remarks by the Acting SFV Chairman, Dr. Tara Singh, and refreshments.
