Harpreet Kaur Nijher daughter of Kirpal Singh and Charanjit Kaur Nijher is a graduating senior from Corning-Painted Post West High School this year. She has maintained a consistent 95 average during her school years and is currently ranked among the top Students in her class. Based upon her SAT and PSAT scores Harpreet has won the honor of becoming a National Merit Scholar.

Harpreet will be attending the University of Rochester next fall and has been selected to participate in the Rochester Early Medical Scholars Program.

Along with academic success Harpreet has also been very active in extracurricular activities. She is presently Co-Editor-in Chief of her school newspaper and is one of the Captains of the School dance squad. In addition

Harpreet is an active member of the National Honor Society Varsity Track and Varsity Soccer teams. She is also a member of the International Thespian Society and has participated in productions such as Mame Anything Goes and 42nd Street. Furthermore the summer before her junior year Harpreet attended the Phillips Exeter Academy Summer School and this past summer took courses in Calculus and Psychology at Harvard University.

Other activities that Harpreet has been involved in include  :S.O.A.R. (Student Opportunities for Activity Realization Gifted and Talented) Medical Explorers (President) Model United Nations Varsity Club Junior Rotarian Regional Science Fair SUNY Albany Science Symposium St Bon adventure College Journalism Symposium. Harpreet has also been very active in developing her understanding about the teachings of the Sikh Gurus and encouraging others to do so. She was a junior counselor at the Northeastern Regional Sikh Youth Camp in Alpine New Jersey and has participated in numerous Kirtan Competitions in Pittsburgh Washington D.C. and New York City. Moreover Harpreet has placed in three out of the four regional speech competitions sponsored by the Sri Hemkunt Foundation In addition she has memorized the holy banis of Jap Ji Sahib Anand Sahib Swayai Chaupai Rehras Sahib Kirtan Sohila and Ardas
