NEW DELHI: Chief Election Commissioner TN Seshan Monday assured Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L K Advani that there will not be any change in the schedules of the second and third phase of the Indian general elections.
The assurance was given by Seshan when Advani contacted him over telephone Monday according to BJP sources.
The second and third phase of the elections scheduled for May 23 and 27 had been postponed to June 12 and 15 due to the assassination of former premier Rajiv Gandhi last Tuesday.
Chief ministers of several states and Congress-I leaders had met President R Venkataraman and Seshan on Sunday and requested them to prepone the elections to the first week of June in view of the impending Monsoons.

BOMBAY: Veteran CP.L leader Shripal Amrit Dange, 91, died of heart attack on May 22 after prolonged illness. He was later cremated with state honors. Dange was one of the founders of the communist movement in India.
