On March 31st Bimal Kaur Khalsa Member of Parliament in India and widow of Shaheed Beant Singh visited the Sikh Foundation of Va. She was introduced by the secretary Balwant Singh Multani. Recounting the dramatic tradition of martyrdom in Sikhism Mr Multani said “It was in the memory of all Sikh martyrs that this Gurdwara Sahib was dedicated 3 years ago. “He said “Sardar Beant Singh’s martyrdom was unique and selfless.”
Calm and stoic Bimal Kaur Khalsa addressed the congregation for about half hour. She spoke of the encumbrances created by the Indian Government which prevented her from leaving India up until recently. Mrs Khalsa portrayed the grim sturuggle of the Sikhs Fake encounters and killing of Sikhs branded as terrorists was frequent. “We can only have Strength in unity” she said Speaking poignantly of the cataclysmic events of 1984 Bimal Kaur pointed out “If the Indian Government had known the Sikh psyche and its indestructibility they would never have attacked Harmander Sahib” It was her observation that the Sikhs in U.S.A. were very sympathetic concerned and involved with the circumstances in India.
She was presented with a Saropa and plaque dedicated to the memory of Shaheed Beant Singh by an elder of the Gurdwara. In closing remarks Mr. Multani paid homage to martyr Beant Singh and all the shaheeds
The awesome tradition of martyrdom has lasted four centuries. The cause of the Sikhs has always been just and the indomitable Sikh spirit has always remained invincible as mandated and exemplified by our Gurus. Bimal Khalsa is a portrait of truth devotion courage and sacrifice.
