PANAJI: The formal merger of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (Ravi Naik group) with the Congress-I took place at a public function organised Friday in this capital city Goa

Chief Minister Ravi Naik and his cabinet colleagues went to the Congress office here and filled their membership forms while the MGP (Ravi) workers became members at the venue of the public function.

Janardhan Poojari general secretary of the Congress (I) in Goa who was specially invited to complete the merger formalities said whatever had been accomplished in the last 40 years by the Congress-I had been wiped out by the last two governments.

Janata Dal (S) spokesman Satyaprakash Malaviya said Chandra Shekhar may seek re-election from Balliain UP.

Replying to questions at a meet-the-pre: programme here Malaviya said his party would project Chandra Shekhar country’s future prime minister

He said his party would persuade the deputy premier Devi Lal to reconsider his decision to keep himself away from the electoral fray. “We will definitely ask Devi Lal to contest from any seat he wants” he said.
